Since its first performance at the Duke of York’s theatre on 27 December, 1904,  Sir
James Matthew Barrie’s story of Peter Pan and Neverland has been a part of childhood.
In 1929, Barrie gave the rights to Peter Pan (also known as the Peter Pan Gift) to the
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. J M Barrie’s gift has provided
a vital source of income to the hospital and has helped provide fairy tale endings to many
of the sick children treated there. Last summer, the hospital gave me permission to use
some of J.M. Barrie’s original manuscripts in my work.
Peter Pan Heart>>
"When the first baby laughed, the very first
laughed... that was the beginning of fairies."
The first draft of the first script of Peter Pan
by JM Barrie is transferred to polymer clay and
hand-formed into beads. The saying above, in
JM Barrie's handwriting, is impressed into fine
silver for the pendant. The piece is strung
together with Swarovski crystals and a heart
shaped toggle clasp.
<<Peter Pan Necklace
"When the first baby laughed, the very first laughed, it broke
up into a million pieces and that's where fairies come from."
The first script of the first draft of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan
is transferred to polymer clay and hand-formed into beads.
The beads are woven and twined together with pearls,
crystals and glass beads. Impressed into the fine silver clasp
in J.M. Barrie's handwriting is the saying above written in
1907.  Also sculpted into the clasp is Tinkerbell, inspired by
Arthur Rackham's original illustrations.

photographs of the “five”, from left to right,
George, Michael, Peter (middle), Nico and
Jack.

of the clasp is Captain Hook, created by
North Carolina artist, Catherine Thornton
for this exhibition.
